Who loves beautiful and cascading waters? We here at Only in Colorado sure do, which is why we love sharing our favorite state waterfalls with you, our readers! However, if there is one waterfall in particular that we just cannot get enough of, it is the large (and often colorful) Seven Falls in Colorado Springs. Here is everything you need to know about the history and location of this iconic area:
Since at least the mid-1800s, the 180 foot waterfall has been privately owned by a number of different families and area farmers.
It was purchased by the Broadmoor Hotel in 1880s and has served as a population tourist attraction ever since.
There are two hiking trails at the top of Seven Falls: Inspiration Point (which was originally built in 1883) and the equally popular Midnight Falls.
The staircase houses a butt-busting 224 steps from top to bottom...
...and the mountain elevator climbs through 14 stories of granite!
The impressive Pillars of Hercules, which greet you at the property entrance, stand at a whopping 900 feet over the canyon floor.
If possible, make plans to see the stunning falls both during the day...
...and also at night, when the attraction bursts into an assortment of vibrant colors!
The lights were added to the canyon in 1947, making it the only fully lit canyon in the entire world.
Unfortunately, the falls have seen their fair share of hard times through the years, including devastating floods in both 1965 and 2013.
The 2013 flood was so destructive that it took the Broadmoor almost two years to reopen the area.
Seven Falls was listed on National Geographic's list of must-see international waterfalls and has also been referred to as “The Grandest Mile of Scenery” in Colorado.
