Colorado is home to some of the most unique places to stay in the country, including yurts, old-time fire lookouts, and even tree houses! What you may not realize, however, is that Colorado is also home to a schoolhouse-turned-hotel, which definitely deserves an A+. Check it out:
Carr Manor, located in the historic town of Cripple Creek, is a boutique hotel with a fascinating past that is literally written on the walls of the interior.
Carr Manor sits in a former schoolhouse that was once Cripple Creek High School. The building was constructed in 1897 and operated as a school up until 1977.
During the 1920s, Cripple Creek High was not just the only high school in town; it was the only working school. As a result, the school expanded to educate young Coloradans all the way from first grade through high school graduation.
In 1982, the then-vacant building was purchased and converted into a hotel, which was named for former Colorado Governor and Cripple Creek High School alum, Ralph Carr.
During your visit, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the subtle (and not-so-subtle) nods at the building's past. These unique features are what give the delightful Carr Manor so much character and charm.
Why stay at a generic hotel when Colorado is filled with amazing, one-of-a-kind spots to stay? Carr Manor offers a unique experience that you'll never forget.
Carr Manor is located at 350 E. Carr Ave. in Cripple Creek. Room rates generally run from $100 to $140 per night, depending on which room you choose and the season when you visit. For more information and to book your reservation, visit the Carr Manor website here or call 719-689-3709.
