1. Palisade
The Colorado countryside has MANY faces, and we recommend exploring each one, beginning with wine and orchard country! From jaw-dropping vineyards to peach trees nestled amidst the colorful plateaus, Palisade may just house the most stunning farmland in the country.
2. Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad (Antonito)
Whether you choose to ride (which we HIGHLY recommend) or simply watch the train journey across the Colorful Colorado prairie, a stop at the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad is a must.
3. Shrine of the Stations of the Cross (San Luis)
Whether or not you are religious, you are guaranteed to find peace at the beautiful Stations of the Cross. Tucked away in Colorado's oldest town, the Stations of the Cross feature exquisite lifesize sculptures complete with a stunning San Luis Valley backdrop.
4. H&H Cafe (Walsenburg)
Are you hungry? If so, you are in luck, as small-town eateries ALWAYS offer some of the best home-cooked food you will ever taste! Case in point: The low-key yet oh-so-tasty H&H Cafe and its made-to-order breakfast and lunch favorites.
5. Rocky Ford
Western Colorado is wine and peach country, so now is the time to visit one (or all!) of the many farm stands around the "Melon Capital of the World." Yum!
6. Purgatorie River Track Site (La Junta)
What kind of sights come to mind when you think of the countryside? Lush farmland? Wide open spaces? The world's largest dinosaur track site? If you didn't answer (or think) of the latter, you are in for a treat as the La Junta countryside is home to the Purgatoire River Track Site (or Picketwire Canyon) and 100 dinosaur track-ways or 1,500 individual dinosaur footprints!
