If you hail from the Centennial State, you already know that we are considered to be a “weird” state, and we couldn’t be any more proud! While many of our towns and people can be downright fun, quirky, and eccentric, there is one community that stands out in particular as being the most Colorado of all, which is the colorful community of Nederland:
Located just west of Boulder, Nederland is a community of 1,500 residents who are always happy to welcome new people to their exciting community!
Established in 1874, Nederland (or "Ned") got its start as a trading post between Ute Indians and European settlers before experiencing a silver and gold boom and transforming into the popular outdoor destination it is today.
Why is Nederland, whose motto is the apt "Life Is Better Up Here," considered to be an outdoor oasis? It is thanks to its nearby parks, forests, and wilderness areas, including Rocky Mountain National Park, Roosevelt National Forest, and Indian Peaks Wilderness.
Do you love hiking, biking, fishing, scenic drives, and/or photography? Then Nederland is the place for YOU.
In addition to the beautiful scenery and ample recreation opportunities, the town of Nederland is also a must-see, as it is home to one-of-a-kind restaurants and shops, museums, coffee houses, and even a Carousel of Happiness (pictured)!
Do you want to experience the very definition of quirky and eccentric? Make plans to take in Nederland's annual Frozen Dead Guy Days, which honors the memory of Grandpa Bredo Morstoel (AKA, the frozen dead guy who resides in a manufactured Tuff Shed) with music, coffin races, food, and a polar plunge.
