Since their inception in the 19th Century, carousels have played a huge role in childhoods everywhere, and Colorado is no exception. Sadly, carousels are no longer as easy to find as they once were, which is why we are excited to introduce you to this Colorado ride that is both still in operation as well as downright historic:
Please note, the Kit Carson County Carousel is temporarily closed.
Located in the eastern Colorado town of Burlington, the Kit Carson County Carousel is a true hidden gem on the Plains, as the ride was originally manufactured for the old Elitch Gardens.
Made in 1905, the Kit Carson County Carousel - or Philadelphia Toboggan Company Carousel #6 - was sold in 1928 to make room for a newer and more modern version, which is when the animals and the rest of the amusement's parts were put into storage.
When you visit the Kit Carson County Carousel today, you will be treated to the original stunning hand-carved animals and band organ, as well as original prices (that means $.25 rides)!
