For every generation, there is that one notorious crime that goes down in memory as one of the worst to ever occur. While no family should ever have to deal with the murder of a loved one, countless have, including the wealthiest and most famous of families, which was the case with this notorious Colorado murder that will never be forgotten:
Quite possibly some of the most famous Coloradans are the Coors family; the owners/heirs of the famous Coors Brewing Company (which was founded in 1873 and has grossed a cool $20.5 billion).
While having unimaginable wealth and success may sound like a dream come true, it also comes with its downfalls, which Adolph Coors III - the grandson of Coors founder Adolph Coors - fell victim to on a cold February morning in 1960.
While heading to work, Coors was thought to have been kidnapped after his blood-stained car was discovered by an employee who went to check on him after he failed to show up for a scheduled board meeting.
The next day, the authorities' suspicions were confirmed, as Coors' wife, Mary, received a ransom letter demanding $500,000, which she took out of the bank but ended up keeping after the kidnapper went silent.
Several weeks after the murder, the FBI named Joseph Corbett, Jr. - a convicted murderer who walked out of a California prison and had taken up residence in Denver's Capitol Hill neighborhood - as the prime suspect and an international manhunt began.
During this time, Coors' remains were discovered near Pikes Peak by a young target shooter.
After eight months of searching, Corbett was found living in British Columbia and immediately surrendered to authorities, even admitting to the botched-kidnapping-turned murder.
On March 29, 1961, Corbett was convicted of Coors' murder and, though sentenced to life in prison, only spent the next 20 years behind bars.
After his release, Corbett lived a low-key life and passed away in Denver in 2009.
