Have you started writing your summertime bucket list? Whether you have or haven’t, there is one thing that you simply cannot pass up, which is swimming in one of Colorado’s all-natural pools (or swimming holes)! Not sure where to find one? Here are our five favorite refreshing natural pools that you will definitely want to visit this summer in Colorado:
1. Paradise Cove (Florrisant)
Located near Colorado Springs is the charming town of Florrisant and its can't-miss Paradise Cove: a deep pool and waterfall that is surrounded by steep and dramatic cliffs! In addition to the pool itself, Paradise Cove is home to a beautiful one-mile out-and-back trail that makes for an even more memorable experience.
2. Big Dominguez Canyon (Whitewater)
You know the Dominguez Canyon Wilderness as being an incredible conservation area, but did you know that it is also home to a must-visit swimming hole? Like Paradise Cove, the Big Dominguez Canyon is surrounded by rocky cliffs and a cascading waterfall, as well as a short, sweet, and scenic hike.
3. Devil's Punchbowl (Aspen)
The name Devil's Punchbowl may sound scary and morbid, but - as you can see from this photo - this Aspen-area wonder is anything but! Located off Independence Pass, the Devil's Punchbowl is arguably the biggest and most epic all-natural pool in the Centennial State!
4. Adrenaline Falls (Durango)
If you prefer hidden gems over the popular and over-crowded spots, you are sure to love the little-known Adrenaline Falls, which is one of the best-kept secrets in all of Colorado. In addition to the 15-foot-tall waterfall and pool, Adrenaline Falls boasts a 2.2-mile hike that is as memorable as the swimming hole itself.
5. St. Charles Creek (San Isabel National Forest)
Not only does St. Charles Creek have ample water to splash around in but also a smooth, all-natural water slide! (Please note: Access to St. Charles Creek and the all-natural waterslide are somewhat complicated, so please visit the
Greenhorn Valley View for in-depth directions.)
