If you live in Colorado, you are guaranteed to have a preferred way of getting high. If you are like me, you get a huge high by scoring great deals whilst thrifting and/or antiquing. If you are like my next door neighbor (who never closes his freaking windows), you like to get high off Colorado’s legal weed. Finally, if you are the outdoorsy type, you love getting high off the state’s outdoor recreation and scenery, both of which you will find whilst visiting the highest road in Colorado:
Welcome to the Mount Evans Scenic Byway; a 28-mile-long stretch of road that continuously ascends, making it not only the highest paved road in Colorado but in North America!
Located just 60 miles west of Denver, the Mount Evans Scenic Byway begins at the Idaho Springs Visitor Center before winding through the gorgeous Mount Evans Wilderness...
(Due to its high elevation and sudden weather changes, the Byway is only open Memorial Day through Labor Day, so make sure to plan your trip accordingly!)
To access the Mount Evans Scenic Byway, Take I-70 to Exit 241, then continue on Miner Street to 13th Ave/Highway 103, which continues on to Highway 5 via the Mount Evans Wilderness.
