If there’s one thing that all of our residents can agree on, it’s that we live in one of the most beautiful states you’ll ever lay your eyes on. Home to the highest elevations in our country, visitors from all over are drawn in to our state to explore our astounding mountains. While any one of our trails are worth taking an adventure to, there’s one wilderness area in Colorado that you should absolutely cross off of your bucket list if you haven’t already visited.
Considered to be the most photographed landscapes in all of Colorado, the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness looks too beautiful to be real.
These pictures will blow your mind but there's nothing like seeing Colorado's fourth largest wilderness area in person. Surrounding you with some of our tallest mountains, six of our fourteeners can be found here!
Bringing in thousands of explorers every year, Maroon Bells-Snowmass offers a hundred miles of trails.
In the photo above, Colorado's stunning wildflowers can be seen in the wilderness area, a natural attraction that intrigues visitors. The entire wilderness area covers over 181,000 acres and has altitudes of over 9,000 feet. If you're an out-of-towner planning to hike here, know that these high altitudes mean you'll be dealing with dry air, less oxygen and weather that can change at any moment!
Panoramic views, wildlife, waterfalls and dream-worthy trails that will take you to unbelievable places? Does it get any better than this? Many of the trails that can be found here are ones that will take hikers days to explore and complete. If you plan on staying overnight in the wilderness area know that you're required to have a self-registered permit that's available right at the trailhead for free!

The most popular time of year to visit Maroon Bells-Snowmass is during the summer and fall.
Between the picturesque wildflowers that you'll find here during our warmer months and the breathtaking colors that beam off of our trees during our fall foliage, it's no surprise that these two seasons are the most popular time to visit. Like always, if you want to avoid dealing with a crowded trail it's best to show up as early as possible.
