Cano's Castle in Antonito, Colorado, is a wonder to behold. The construction of this incredible structure began in the 1980s and it continues, ongoing, to this day.
Antonito is a very small town that is just north of the New Mexico border. It only has about 700 residents. As you might imagine, Cano's Castle stands out in this tiny town.
For many years, Cano lived in a house next to the castle, but it burned in a fire in January 2022. Today, he still lives on the property, though, in an off-grid trailer. He raises goats, geese, and sheep on his property as well.

He's a private man, but if you do get the chance to talk to him, he won't take credit for building the castle. He'll tell you that God built it.
The castle is made from found objects. Aluminum from beer cans is one of the primary materials you can see used in it, but you'll also see a lot of hubcaps and other metal mixed in as well.
Cano's Castle is very special and it's one of those unique things that makes Colorado the interesting place that it is. Although Antonito is quite a bit off the beaten path, it's worth the detour if you're near Alamosa!
Cano’s Castle is one of the most unique attractions in Colorado, and you’re going to love viewing and photographing it when you visit Antonito! Remember, this “castle” is on private property, so you’ll have to stay on the street while you check it out, but it’s better to view it from a distance so you can take it all in. Enjoy!
