The Centennial State is known for its colorful railroad history, which, fortunately, can still be seen and experienced today. That being said, if you are a railroad enthusiast, enjoy Colorado history, or are a kid who enjoys trains, you are going to want to plan a trip to this little-known and fascinating Colorado train park:
Welcome to the High Line Railroad Park!
Located in Breckenridge, the High Line Railroad Park is THE place to learn about mountain railroad history, as the collection boasts intriguing artifacts and examples of narrow gauge railroading at the turn of the century.
When you visit, you will be treated to outdoor exhibits and retired equipment, including everyone's favorite: Engine No. 9, which ran through Breckenridge in the late 1800s.
In addition to the engine, High Line also has a boxcar display, caboose, and an old-time rotary snowplow.
If you visit with the kids, stop by the railroad-themed playground for tons of imaginative and outdoor play!
The High Line Railroad Park is operated by Breckenridge History (formerly the Breckenridge Heritage Alliance), which curates and oversees other must-see area museums like the Breckenridge Sawmill Museum, Barney Ford Museum, and the Washington Mine and Milling Exhibit (pictured).
The High Line Railroad Park is open year-round from dawn until dusk and is best to visit in warmer months when there is less snow on the ground.
Admission to this outdoor train park is FREE.
