While Kindles, tablets, and other e-reader devices remain popular as ever, physical books will never go out of style, and we couldn’t be more thankful! While e-readers can be cheap and convenient, they lack the experience of going into a book store, inhaling the intoxicating aroma of paper and cardstock, and browsing through thousands of different titles. If you love physical books and the thrill of discovering your next favorite thrill, you will enjoy perusing the largest independent bookstore in Colorado:
Located in Denver is the iconic Tattered Cover Bookstore; one of the biggest and most loved bookstores in the state!
Opened in 1971, the Tattered Cover was initially located in a modest 950-square-foot Cherry Creek shop with only 2 full-time employees, but quickly gained popularity and transformed into one of Colorado's favorite stores!
By 1975, the store continued to expand quickly and then branched out into different locations in the early 1980s. By 2006, the Cherry Creek flagship store was no longer big enough to accommodate the shop and was moved to its current location on Colfax Ave.
In addition to the primary Colfax location, the Tattered Cover has smaller shops along the 16th Street Mall, in Denver's Union Station, and Littleton (pictured).
What makes the Tattered Cover so unique? For starters, they have every kind of book you could imagine, cushy chairs to sit and read, a cozy cafe, book clubs, and more.
In addition to all of the above, this massive bookstore hosts several book readings and signings and other can't-miss special events that you will not find anywhere else!
