You have climbed all of the 14ers, hiked through such iconic attractions as the Garden of the Gods and Hanging Lake, and have maybe even conquered a waterfall trail or two. Now what? If you are looking for a hike that is both unforgettable and somewhat of a rite-of-passage, we recommend checking out four different states at once via the Hovenweep National Monument:
Located along the Colorado/Utah border, Hovenweep National Monument is one of the Centennial State's most historic and well-preserved landmarks.
Once home to some 2,500 Ancestral Puebloans, Hovenweep National Monument was built and used between A.D. 1200 and 1300 and designated a National Monument in 1923.
When you visit the Monument today, you will discover six different Ancestral Puebloan villages, plus many unique hiking opportunities you will not find anywhere else.
Lined with rocks (so as to provide natural boundaries), the trails around Hovenweep National Monument wind through the many structures, towers, and artifacts, as well as the area's distinct foliage and geology.
From short and sweet .2-mile round-trip trails to a butt-busting 7-mile trek, there is something for everyone to do and love at Hovenweep!
During your hike, be sure to keep your eyes peeled, as—thanks to both its location in the Four Corners region and utter vastness—you may unknowingly see more than one state at once!
