It’s official: The roarin’ 20s are in full swing around the world, thanks to not only the fact that the year is 2020, but because much of the world looks the same as it did 100 years ago (a la pandemics, racial injustices, political tensions, etc.). If you want to get an even better look at how the world was in the 1920s, we invite you to put on the ritz at the historic Rialto Theater in Colorado:
Located in Loveland, the Rialto Theater is a northern Colorado institution that delights the masses with a series of live shows and concerts.
Opened in 1920, the Rialto started out as a silent movie theater that continued to change with the times, also serving as a theater for "talkies," a shopping mall, and—finally—as a preeminent Performing Art Center.
When you visit today, you will enjoy many of the Rialto's original 1920 features, including terra cotta panels and medallions, the balcony, and a leaded glass transom window in the lobby.
While much of the building remains the same, volunteers with Loveland’s Downtown Development Authority—who helped restore the long-abandoned Rialto beginning in 1989—also made some much-needed upgrades, the most noticeable of which was swapping out the 1,014 wooden seats with 446 comfortable ones.
In addition to live shows and performances, the Rialto Theater also hosts special screenings and premiers, and other special events, so make sure to visit often!
