Are you looking to discover beautiful new towns around the Centennial State? If so, you have come to the right place, as we are always uncovering new places to visit and explore! Today, we are traveling to stunning northwest Colorado and the town of Yampa, which is filled to the brim with history, charm, and jaw-dropping scenery:
Home to an estimated 450 residents, the town of Yampa is often overlooked for its size, but what it lacks in population it makes up for with its good people and world-class attractions.
Once used by the Ute tribe as a riverside summer camp, Yampa is said to have long been a popular destination because of its lush valley location, which was later established as a homestead for surround mines.
Officially incorporated in 1907, Yampa has worn several hats over the years, including the aforementioned mining homestead, railroad stop, farming community, and - today - the "Gateway to the famed Flat Tops Wilderness."
What is there to do in Yampa? For starters, there are great places to eat and shop...
Pictured is the iconic Antler's Cafe & Bar, which was built in 1906 and serves some of the best food and drink in the state.
...stay...
Do you enjoy camping? Then you will love Yampa and its surrounding Chapman Reservoir, Bear Lake, and Cold Springs Campgrounds. Do you prefer something with four walls and a roof? There are historic hotels and lots of Airbnbs in the area, too!
...and, of course, explore.
Stunning drives along the must-see Flat Tops Trail Scenic Byway? Check. Hiking along the terrifying Devil's Causeway (pictured)? Double-check. Historic places like the circa 1890 Montgomery’s General Merchandise and 1900's Royal Hotel? It's all here in Yampa!
In addition to all of the above, Yampa also hosts exciting events like their annual 4th of July celebration complete with cowboy horse polo.
