Are you an animal lover? If you are a Coloradan, the answer is a definite yes, and you have probably visited our world-class zoos and most sanctuaries more times than you can count. If you are looking for a unique animal oasis that is arguably one of the best-kept secrets in Colorado, however, there is only one place to be, which is the hidden Mountain View Sanctuary:
Located in the small town of Walsenburg, the Mountain View Sanctuary is arguably one of the best-kept secrets in southern Colorado, thanks to both its beautiful landscape and 4-legged residents.
On a mission to "provide a lifelong home to neglected, abused, injured, abandoned and re-homed animals in need," the Mountain View Sanctuary houses more than 40 different animals, all of which have a "unique story and personality."
What kind of animals can you expect to find at the Mountain View Sanctuary? They have everything from goats and pigs to sheep, chickens, rabbits, and donkeys.
Established in 2016, most of the Mountain View Sanctuary residents have been rescued from being slaughtered or other dangerous situations, including a Jindo dog rescued from a South Korean dog meat farm.
