Isn’t it wonderful to live in 2017? Not only are necessities one quick click away (and two short days, if you have Prime shipping), but you can now even order your groceries online! As hard as it is to imagine, this hasn’t always been the case, as Coloradans used to shop for their goods at locally-owned general stores and trading posts, like this old Colorado shop that has been around for more than 100 years:
Established in 1900, the Garden of the Gods Trading Post is "Colorado's largest gift shop and southwest art gallery" that is a must-visit for every Coloradan!
With a storefront featuring a whopping 25,000 square feet and 90,000+ items for sale, there is no shortage of things to peruse through, including numerous gifts and housewares...
...tourist apparel...
...locally-made foods...
...and even colorful Native American arts and crafts!
(The Garden of the Gods Trading Post is home to not only a store, but also a cafe and a number of special events, like the pictured paint party!)
Built at the turn-of-the-century by Indian trader Charles Strausenback, this trading post has expanded 7 different times, but has always maintained the same heritage and Pueblo Indian-inspired exterior.
The Garden of the Gods Trading Post is located just down the street from its namesake (the Garden of the Gods Park) at 324 Beckers Lane in Manitou Springs and is open daily from 8 am to 8:30 pm. For more information, please visit their website .
