Do you consider yourself to be a bit of a wine connoisseur? Are you a foodie at heart? Maybe you are somewhat of a train enthusiast? Do you just need to escape for an hour or two? If you answered yes to any (or all) of the above, hop around this Colorado wine and dinner train that is perfect for your next outing.
Located in exciting Cañon City is the historic Royal Gorge Route Railroad.
Opened in 1880 after a long battle over who should have the rights to the new tracks, the Royal Gorge Railroad was once a line for the Union Pacific, but was sold in 1997 in an effort to preserve the 12 miles of track running through the actual gorge.
No matter the time of year, the Royal Gorge Railroad is running and offers not only extraordinary scenic rides, but also special rides like murder mystery dinners, family nights, Oktoberfest, and a holiday train.
In addition to all of these fun events, the Royal Gorge offers Colorado's ONLY dinner and wine train, which comes complete with five chef-prepared courses, each paired with a world-class wine.
What's on the menu? While we don't want to give it all away, we will say it begins with truffle honey glazed jumbo sea scallops paired with a Pinot Grigio and ends with Panna Cotta and a Mocha Java Blend from the San Luis Valley Craft Roastery Coffee.
The 2019 Royal Gorge Route Railroad Wine Dinners will run on June 21st, September 7th, and October 12th, and cost $219 per person in the Dome Wine Car or $199 per person in the Dining Wine Car.
Please note: Each ride begins at 6:30 p.m. and lasts approximately three hours. Only passengers age 21+ are permitted on the Royal Gorge Route Railroad Wine train.
