When most people think of farming, they think of cows, corn, and tractors. When you hail from Colorado, however, your horizons have expanded, and you know that farming is cultivation in general, which includes the likes of this small town that is the perfect place to get away from it all:
Welcome to the aptly-named town of Marble, Colorado.
Incorporated in 1899, Marble got its name (and its start) from the historic Yule Marble quarry, which has supplied high-quality marble to such projects as the Lincoln Memorial, Tomb of the Unknowns, the Equitable Building in New York City, and civic buildings around San Francisco.
Deemed to be one of the purest marbles ever quarried, the cultivation of marble has long supported this small mountain community, with the ore being shipped locally and to far-off places like Europe and Asia.
(Yes: Marble also has more traditional forms of farming, thanks to the stunning, multi-generational ranchland that encompasses the area!)
When you visit today, you will be treated to some of the most pristine mountain landscapes in the state, complete with world-class camping, fishing, and hiking.
In addition to these outdoor recreational opportunities, Marble also boasts close proximity to the ghost towns of Gothic and Crystal and the world-famous Crystal Mill.
