Colorado is a great place to be if you love animals and nature. Case in point: a few weeks ago, Only in Denver gave you an inside look at The Animal Sanctuary in Keenesburg, which is working toward “rescuing, rehabilitating, and restoring health and dignity to unfortunate animals who have suffered abuse and neglect at the hands of humans.” However, The Animal Sanctuary isn’t the only loving home for these unique animals. In fact, this large animal rescue allows guests a chance to not only visit, but actually touch and help the animals themselves!
Welcome to the Edwards Foundation for Rescued Animals; a "small privately owned no kill animal rescue" that has been rescuing animals for more than 25 years.
Opened by animal lovers/retired teachers John and Lynda Edwards, this rescue is based on a 5-acre farm in Parker, with another 70-acre property just east of the city.
When you visit the Edwards Foundation, you won't be given a generic tour of the grounds before being asked to leave; you will be put to work caring for the animals!
Since the foundation is primarily run by volunteers, help from visitors is greatly appreciated and varies from brushing horses to walking llamas to even cleaning stalls and making repairs.
