I know that fall doesn’t officially begin until September 22nd, but in the book of Annie (which states that fall begins once the kids are back in school and the Broncos pre-season games have commenced), it is here! That being said, let us take this opportunity to dig out our favorite sweaters, buy all the pumpkin spice, and visit this charming Colorado town that everyone should visit this fall:
Located near the southwest corner of the state lies beautiful Durango; a year-round travel destination that invites its visitors to "escape the ordinary."
Originally founded in 1880 as a way to serve the San Juan mining district, Durango quickly transformed into a railroad town thanks to the nearby plotting of a Denver and Rio Grande depot.
In addition to its fascinating history, Durango is also home to both a quaint downtown area and friendly residents, which make visiting this Western Slope town all the more enjoyable!
Now, you are probably wondering why you should visit Durango in the fall, right? For starters, there are the colorful rides along the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad...
Originally constructed to haul silver & gold ore from the San Juan Mountains to Denver, the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is now one of Colorado’s favorite train rides that spans across some of the most beautiful scenery in the state!
...numerous fall festivals and events...
