Summer is almost here, which means it is time to get outside and enjoy the great outdoors either by foot or car! If you prefer the latter and want to get out and drive, you are in luck, as the Dinosaur Diamond Scenic and Historic Byway may just be the best summer road trip in all of Colorado:
Running nearly 515 miles, the Dinosaur Diamond Scenic and Historic Byway is one of the longest and most beautiful roads in the state!
Split between Colorado and Utah, the Dinosaur Diamond Scenic and Historic Byway (which is referred to as merely the Dinosaur Diamond Prehistoric Highway in Utah) was opened in 2002 and is a must-visit for fans of the prehistoric, thanks to its many sights and landmarks.
Beginning in Grand Junction and ending in Prince, Utah, a few of the Centennial State stops along the Dinosaur Diamond include the aptly named Dinosaur National Monument, Colorado National Monument, and Canyon Pintado National Historic District, all of which deserve to be stopped at and enjoyed.
If you decide to venture on into Utah (which is home to 3/4 of the Byway), you will discover the western end of the Dinosaur National Monument, plus other historical sites like the iconic Arches National Park, College of Eastern Utah Prehistoric Museum, and Uintah and Ouray Indian Reservation.
You never know what historical delights you will discover along the Dinosaur Diamond!
Please note: The Colorado portion of the Dinosaur Diamond Scenic and Historic Byway spans 134 miles and can be completed in 2 to 3 days.
