Bet you never thought you’d be drinking a Corpse Reviver cocktail in the building that once housed the actual remains of Buffalo Bill. (Yes, literally.) You can do just that and then some at Linger Eatuary, an old mortuary that’s been transformed into a wickedly popular food and drink haunt in LoHi. With its killer ambiance, out-of-this-world rooftop, devilish cocktails, and food to die for, Linger is a truly unique Denver restaurant that promises a morbidly riotous good time.
Nestled in the Lower Highlands is the incomparable Linger Eatuary, the finest mortuary-turned-eatery in the Mile High City and a spot so intriguing, you'll certainly want to linger. Before the humorously death-themed restaurant opened in 2011, it was nothing more than the shell of the former Olinger Mortuaries, part of Denver's most prominent family funeral empire which reportedly housed the body of Buffalo Bill Cody in 1917, while Colorado and Wyoming duked it out over his remains. (We won.)
You'd never know that the eatery's stunning main dining room used to be a garage filled with hearses, and you'll be delighted to find a quirky, slightly morbid decor sprinkled throughout the carefully constructed establishment.
This table in the upstairs dining area is modeled after the metal conveyor belts morticians used to roll dead bodies into the incinerator, and that's just the tip of the eerie but endearing iceberg.
And the drinks boast names like Corpse Reviver #2½ and the Devil Inside, which give a gentle, respectful nod to the establishment's rich history without dragging it six feet under.
Speak of the Devils (on Horseback), Linger's diverse food menu offers shareable small plates with influences from all over the globe. This aptly named Devils on Horseback is a lip-smacking favorite, with sweet dates stuffed with herbed goat cheese, wrapped in applewood smoked bacon, and cooked to crispy, creamy perfection.
Another wickedly delicious smash hit is their irresistible Bao Buns, including pork belly with grilled pineapple and plum sauce, Mongolian BBQ duck with scallions and pickled cucumbers, and Dragon (aka Tempura Avocado with snap peas and wasabi aioli. Is your mouth watering yet?!?!
Linger is open daily and offers creatively crafted menus for lunch, brunch, happy hour, and dinner. Rooftop dining is available for brunch and dinner (weather permitting), with a slightly different menu than the main dining areas. FYI: For brunch, they pour Topless Mimosas on the rooftop and Bottomless Mimosas inside - no matter which you choose, you win. (Now I know your mouth is watering.)
