Construction crews in Colorado just unearthed something amazing. A massive triceratops skeleton and skull have been found in Thornton and scientists are very excited.
Paleontologists from the Denver Museum of Nature and Scientists were dispatched Wednesday to examine the find as soon as it was discovered. Joe Sertich, the curator of dinosaurs at the museum, has stated that the find is especially thrilling since it includes the horn and skull of the legendary creature.

The fossil has been estimated to be at least 66 million years old. This is exceptional in that many fossils pulled from the ground in the Denver area are only between 10,000 and 12,000 years old. Furthermore, massive finds like this one are sometimes discovered too late – construction crews occasionally find destroyed remnants of skeletons in their debris that have been pulverized by the heavy machinery.
All work on the area has ceased as scientists expose the fossil and search for additional bone pieces. Though the dinosaur will be removed from its resting place of 66 million years, this triceratops isn’t moving far from home. The researchers hope to house the completed skeleton at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.
