As Denver residents, we don’t have to travel far to experience an escape into a variety of winter wonderlands that surround us during the snowy season. If being transported into a postcard-worthy setting this winter sounds appealing to you, grab your camera and make your way to one of these 6 tiny towns listed below that will amaze you with their jaw-dropping beauty, especially when covered in glistening snow.
1. Morrison
While this little town, located just over 20 minutes from Denver, boasts a quaint downtown area and the magnificent Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre, you can also discover winter beauty in the quiet, serene locations around town like this bridge over Bear Creek.
2. Georgetown
Georgetown is simply full of fun opportunities in the winter time. With everything from ice racing on the lake, to strolling around the historic shops and eateries, sometimes it's nice to just step back and take in the winter time magic that this mountain town is known for.
3. Silver Plume
This former mining town is home to a restored 1884 train depot that marks the end of the popular three-mile Georgetown Loop Railroad. Watching the trains roll in against the backdrop of snow-covered mountains transports you to a storybook setting that has been beautifully illustrated.
4. Idaho Springs
This particular area in Idaho Springs is one of the most photographed spots in town, and understandably so. Watching the water rush down the mountainside into Clear Creek is mesmerizing during the warmer months. While Bridal Veil Falls is visible from I-70, we recommend pulling over and capturing the gorgeous scenery in the winter time when the falls are frozen and it looks as though time is standing still. The Charlie Tayler Water Wheel found in the foreground of the falls is 120 years old and only adds more beauty to this spectacular sight.
5. Allenspark
Many associate Allenspark as the location of St. Malo's Chapel on the Rock. This stunning chapel is a tourist landmark and is open to the public. As you can see, it is both rich in history and breath-taking beauty.
6. Nederland
This scenic mountain town is located just 17 miles west of Boulder and carries with it the motto, "Life Is Better Up Here." When visiting the heart of the town in the winter time to shop, eat, or play, you will definitely agree.
