Whether you’re a Colorado native, a new transplant, or just passing through, the Mile High City has something for you! These 11 things to love about Denver will make you fall in love with the city all over again, and never want to leave.
1. Sports are always in season!
We've got all four majors - baseball, football, basketball, hockey - and then some. (I highly suggest checking out the broomball league for some novel entertainment). If you're a sports fan, Denver will not disappoint. And the views aren't so bad either.
2. Travel by train.
Not only is Union Station the main railway station and hub for Denver, but it's also filled to the brim with some of the best restaurants, bars, and shops the city has to offer. Visitor and locals alike can take advantage of their luxury hotel on premise. Check in...and check out. Staycation dreams.
3. Libations galore!
New twists on old-fashioned cocktails (pun intended) are all the rage, and the home to the Broncos is leading the charge. All you have to do is pick your vibe then pick your poison.
4. Dance, dance, dance!
Dance your butt off...literally. After all the beer and nachos you inhaled at the Rockies game, you probably need to bust a move and burn some calories. Denver has plenty of nightspots and dive bars where you can boogie down til the wee hours of the morning.
5. Sweet serenity.
With fresh bursts of color in the spring, a concert series in the summer, and an incredible light display during the fall and winter, the Denver Botanic Gardens is always a good place to be. Experience beauty and tranquility at this little oasis smack in the middle of the city. Serenity now.
6. Shop local.
There is an abundance of independently owned and operated businesses in our creatively-inspired city just dying to take your money. We've got everything, including designer, consignment, thrift, new and used record and book stores, and more. (Note: Pictured is Tattered Cover, a great place to buy a book, have some coffee, then lounge and enjoy some serious leisure time. Afterward, walk over to Twist & Shout and pick up some new records). Support your community and shop local!
7. Need no license to drive.
Well, okay, you do if you have a car, but with Denver's extensive public transportation system, you don't need one. There are over 150 bus routes and six rail lines zipping in and around the city and surrounding areas to get you where you need to go.
8. Drink local.
We Denverites are serious about our beverages, and our craft distilleries and microbreweries put out some of the finest products in the nation. Go ahead, have one too many! And always drink local.
9. We LOVE festivals!
...and there's one for just about everything. Music, beer, food trucks, comic books...you name it, we celebrate it!
10. Work hard, play hard!
We pretty much coined the term, and the possibilities for easily accessible outdoor activities in and around the city are endless. Whether it's kayaking, climbing, hiking, horseback riding, snowshoeing, or cross-country skiing, we can accommodate your addiction to adventure. Oh, and we've got a few 14ers too. 53 to be exact.
11. Rock the Rocks!
Last, but certainly not least, is one of the city's biggest claims to fame, and a spot I've been frequenting for decades. But as I've said, Red Rocks is not just for music. You can catch a sunrise (or even better, sunrise yoga), see a film, take some pics, take a hike, run the stairs, or pretty much anything else you can think of that's legal. Uhhmm.
Now that’s some serious Mile High lovin’! I’m smitten all over again. What would you add to our list? What do you love about Denver?
