If you grew up in or around the Mile High City, there are just some things that you became accustomed to at an early age that may seem strange to outsiders. Take, for instance, these 12 legitimate and telltale signs that you grew up in Denver:
1.) Good grades in school = free ski passes.
While the Midwest kids were getting free pizzas and what not, we were hitting the slopes via our FREE pass!*
(*Some exclusions apply. Call ski resort for blackout dates.)
2.) You attended at least one birthday party at Casa Bonita...
...AND you have this commemorative photo to prove it!
3.) ...and wanted nothing more than to celebrate your birthday with Blinky.
Not only did you get to be on Channel 2, you also got to have Blinky sing his iconic birthday song to you! ("Happy Birth...day dear children, Happy Birth...day to you!")
4.) Colorado kids grew up accustomed to the finer things.
Who needs caviar and lobster when there are such foods as green chile and Rocky Mountain Oysters?
5.) Field trips consisted of the Butterfly Pavilion...
You held Rosie, touched a starfish (pictured), AND -- if you were lucky -- had a butterfly land on you!
6.) ...Denver Museum of Nature & Science...
Pictured is the Discovery Zone, which is something we didn't have as kids and is therefore not fair!
7.) ...and Dinosaur Ridge.
+1 if you got one of these iconic pictures of you and your friends chilling on some dinosaur tracks. (Take that, east coast kids!)
8.) Denver kids receive a different version of "the talk."
Sure, we get the standard birds and bees spiel... but we also get the weed talk at a young age (since there are SO many buildings around town adorned in green crosses).
9.) You had become accustomed to so many snow days each year...
Whether or not you were religious, you PRAYED (or did the ancient rain... err, blizzard dance) that the roads would be too bad for the buses to get around town.
10.) ...wearing flip flops year round...
Want to know the fastest way to spot a transplant? They are the ones wearing boots in the snow. *eye roll*
11.) ...and wearing a jacket to recess when temperatures dipped below 25.
Don't worry; we did put a coat on if temperatures were in the negatives (I mean c'mon, we're not animals!).
12.) Finally, you absolutely loved your childhood, the people you met, and the opportunities you had in this beautiful city.
There is truly no better place to grow up than Denver, Colorado... Can I get an amen?!
