Despite the recent – and certainly unfortunate – incidents that have occurred at the 16th Street Mall, Denver is a fairly safe city, especially in comparison to other metro areas of similar size. Most Mile High crimes tend to be non-violent and consist of break-ins and petty theft (Boo!). That being said, based on crime data taken from the police department, these neighborhoods have the lowest crime density per square mile and are, therefore, some of the safest places to live in Denver.
1. Belcaro
Not surprisingly, this fashionable, upscale neighborhood near Cherry Creek and Wash Park is brimming with mansions and tree-lined streets but not with criminal activity. "Belcaro" means "beautiful beloved" in Italian, and it most definitely lives up to its name.
2. Wellshire
The Wellshire neighborhood, between University and University Hills in south Denver, just may be one of the city's best kept secrets and has one of the metro area's lowest overall crime rates. Take that and its close proximity to Old South Pearl, Wash Park, and the University of Denver, and Wellshire is one of the most desirable yet underrated communities in the Mile High City.
3. Fort Logan
If you truly want to escape the city traffic, Fort Logan in southwest Denver may be on the outskirts of town, but it's also a community where you can rest safe and sound.
4. Indian Creek
This somewhat obscurely located neighborhood in southeast Denver has had one of the city's lowest crime rates for over a decade. It may have a plethora of strips malls and chain stores, but it also has a continuous lack of criminal activity.
5. Country Club
Another Mile High community with consistently low incidents of crime is Country Club in central Denver. Since half the neighborhood is actually a golf course, this should come as no surprise, but it still gets kudos for consistency.
6. Hilltop
With its quaint cul-de-sacs and wealthy residents, Hilltop in east Denver weighs in with a low crime density and high curb appeal. If you're fortunate enough to afford to live in this upscale neighborhood between Cherry Creek and Lowry, you can most definitely rest easy.
7. Southmoor Park
On the outskirts of the city near the Denver Tech Center, is a sleepy little suburb known as Southmoor Park. There's not a lot going on in this quiet neighborhood - including criminal acts - but a quick ride on the RTD will take you up toward the University of Denver or Downtown where you can get your fill of city excitement.
