Nestled away within Boulder’s Chautauqua Park lies the scenic Royal Arch Trail; a 3 1/2-mile loop that offers a butt-busting walk, lush meadows, and out-of-this-world views of the city below. Running through the serene Bluebell Canyon, the Royal Arch Trail is somewhat strenuous (thanks to the numerous hills and elevation gain of 1,400 feet), but oh-so worth it just to get a glimpse of both the native wildlife and of beautiful Boulder (and beyond). Why is the trail called Royal Arch? (We thought you’d never ask!) This Boulder-area gem is not only home to views and wildlife, but also a jaw-dropping, 20-foot-tall sandstone rock formation that is estimated to have been created during an ancestral Rocky Mountain uplift some 300 million years ago!
