If you love downright delicious food, but can do without a pretentious, formal atmosphere, than you are going to want to pull up a seat at Work & Class. This Denver restaurant is a hot spot that serves up mouth-watering homestyle Southern and Latin American cuisine with the goal of offering high-quality food without the fuss.
Work & Class describes themselves as "a square meal, stiff drink, and fair price."
This restaurant and bar, which opened in January of 2014 reflects the working class background and down to earth attitude of it's owners Tony Maciag, a Detroit native, and Dana Rodriguez, who grew up on a farm in Chihuahua, Mexico. They both believe that the best restaurants are often the most simple ones.
You will love the relaxed atmosphere of this informal, industrial space as it is housed in the steel shell of re-purposed shipping containers with planked wooden floors and a community table that runs down the middle of the dining area.
The food, though, will take your taste buds too a whole new level. The kitchen prides itself on offering flavorful dishes in an approachable way with customer favorites including the slow-roasted goat and cochinita pibil (red-chile braised pork).
You may want to slip out of work a bit early to catch Work & Class' unbeatable Happy Hour.
Their "Early Work Release Program" offers high quality food and booze (cocktails, wine, and drafts) at prices that won't empty your wallet. Select menu items like the chipotle chicken pot pie and green chile cheese fries are featured during this time. Come in Tuesday-Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 4 to 5 p.m. to partake in this mouth-watering and thirst-quenching menu.
Have you tried their Peppers Five Ways?
Get ready for a delicious journey through a variety of peppers with this dish that may clear your sinuses and cause you to break out into a bit of a sweat. The line up includes bacon-wrapped jalapenos, grilled shishitos, mixed pickled peppers, sweet pepper jam, and the Fresno popper (a red peppers stuffed with creamy white cheese, and coated in crushed pecans).
But, wait. There's more...
For a taste of freshness, try their roasted beet salad with crushed pistachios, Haystack Farms Snowdrop cheese, and pepper jam vinaigrette.
It doesn't get much more down-home than their tasty fried chicken.
All gluten-free diners rejoice that this mouthwateringly delicious fried chicken is made with a "breading" that just happens to be gluten free.
You can also get a taste of the Latin American flavors with dishes such as the lechon carnitas tacos with roasted pineapple salsa, mojo sauce, and avocado purée.
Do yourself a favor and save room for the "life changing" butterscotch pudding that comes complete with almond toffee and whipped cream.
