Spooky decor and costumes are adorning the seasonal section of every department store and you know what that means… Halloween is coming! If you enjoy a good fright and prefer the kind that isn’t staged and overly done, you are going to want to kick off your Halloween season by taking a walk along this haunted trail near Denver that is sure to scare you silly:
Located in Colorado Springs' North Cheyenne Cañon Park is that of Helen Hunt Falls; a 35-foot-tall waterfall that has become a popular hiking destination for Coloradans.
Named in honor of activist Helen Hunt (not to be confused with the Academy Award-winning actress), the falls pay homage to Hunt's poetry and humanitarian work for Native Americans, which brings in not only hiking tourists, but also history buffs and other activists working for the same cause.
Between the allure of these cascading waters and the short quarter-mile hike to access them, Helen Hunt Falls brings in thousands of visitors each year, some of who never return home.
According to reports, the area surrounding Helen Hunt Falls is extremely dangerous, claiming the lives of at least one hiker a year since its discovery.
As if the death toll itself wasn't eerie enough, numerous hikers at Helen Hunt Falls have also reported unexplainable voices and noises, especially at night.
Is there any truth to this story? That's for you to decide.
Helen Hunt Falls is located inside North Cheyenne Cañon Park (about an hour and a half from Denver) and is open May 1st through October 1st from 5 am to 9 pm and November 1st through April 30th from 5 am to 11 pm.
