Just a short 15 minute drive from the hustle and bustle of downtown Denver, you will find a unique farm that is home to some very happy animals. Broken Shovels Farm is a sanctuary for farm animals that are homeless, abused, neglected, or slaughter bound. This tiny farm is an oasis that provides a place of protection and comfort for the animals, and education and enjoyment for visitors.
Broken Shovels Farm can be found at 8640 Dahlia St., in Commerce City, CO 80640.
Following her intership, she was moved to open a slaughter-free dairy.

Although the dairy portion of the farm is no longer in operation, Broken Shovels now focuses primarily on being a sanctuary for farm animals who need a helping hand, or animals that have finished their working years and are ready to "retire."
The farm has also recently taken measures to become a safe haven for wild animals (especially those who are losing their natural habitat due to rapid expansion/development in Colorado) as well.
This hands-on learning experience is a safe space for younger children to learn about the animals with an emphasis both on science and practical life-based learning.
You can schedule a tour for a group who wants to learn more about the inner workings of a small farm.
Visitors are also welcome to come out for one of their holiday markets, open farm days, or "snuggle" days where guests can love on the animals at the farm.
