Are you looking for something to do this weekend that is as awesome as it is unique? Do you get a sense of nostalgia every time you hear the sound of a train whistle? Or maybe you just have a toddler (like myself) who cannot get enough Thomas the Train and/or watching model trains? If you answered yes to any (or all) of the above, you will want to hop aboard this dreamy train-themed trip around Denver that will take you on the journey of a lifetime (link to the interactive map can be found here ):
1.) Breakfast Inn (Denver)
Before we begin to go full-steam ahead on our train-themed adventure, let's have the most important meal of the day and one of the best breakfast joints in town! Welcome to the Breakfast Inn; a no-frills diner with not just hearty and delicious meals, but a model train running overhead as well.
2.) Tiny Town & Railroad (Morrison)
Opening as "Turnerville" in 1915, Tiny Town has welcomed thousands of families over a 102-year period, and features not only scenic train rides through the community, but also beautifully detailed miniature homes and businesses.
3.) Georgetown Loop Railroad (Georgetown)
Located less than an hour from the heart of Denver, the legendary Georgetown Loop Railroad offers a number of special events including Mine Tours, Hike and Rides, and Santa's North Pole Adventure. (While all of these rides are great, we can't help but gush over their unforgettable "Fall Colors" train ride, pictured.)
4.) The Train Cars Coffee and Yogurt Company (Nederland)
You have been driving/traveling quite a bit, so you can probably use a great cup of joe, right? Let's make a pit stop by The Train Cars Coffee and Yogurt Company, which has not only great java, but a great ambiance via its historic storefront (which is made up of retired Pullman, Circus, and Caboose cars).
5.) Colorado Railroad Museum (Golden)
What is a train-themed road trip around the Mile High City without stopping by the Colorado Railroad Museum, which invites guests to "lose track of time" via their 100 narrow and standard gauge steam and diesel locomotives, model trains, and their popular "Ride the Rails Saturday."
6.) Union Station Terminal Bar (Denver)
What a fun day! Before your journey ends, grab a drink at Union Station's fabulous Terminal Bar, which is located in the same spot as the original Union Station's ticketing office.
