The Hidden Beaches Road Trip That Will Show You Denver Like Never Before
Wasn’t last weekend absolutely glorious?! Temperatures were a comfortable 70-some degrees, we had a few gentle rainstorms… it was truly the best! But alas; like most good things, this unseasonably cool weather is coming to an end, which is where this Denver hidden beaches road trip — and its cold waters — comes into play! (Link to the interactive map can be found here.)

If you thought the Chatfield Reservoir was great for outdoor recreation, wait until you get a load of the soft sand and gentle waves that line this designated swim area... (Okay, we will admit that the fishing and boating is pretty epic too, so make plans to enjoy both on the same day!)

Now, I know what you're thinking and no; I didn't just sneak in a picture from the beaches of San Diego! (That is what you were thinking, right? RIGHT?!) This is a picture of sunny Cherry Creek Swim Beach, which is my personal favorite place to lay out, read, and catch some rays.

Located just down the road from Cherry Creek lies the white sands of Aurora Reservoir, which one Yelper so eloquently put as being like a "beach in Mexico but with a lot of geese poop." Hey, poop happens, so we will not let this all-natural occurrence deter our summer fun!

What? You didn't think a heart of a big city could have a beautiful beach? Then you have obviously never splashed around in the waters of the Cherry Creek and South Platte Rivers.

While the waters of Standley Lake are not open for swimming, it is still a gorgeous area that is perfect for catching a sunset during your beachy road trip.

If you think this peaceful picture looks perfect, wait until you experience the shores of this 700-acre area -- which is popular amongst locals and tourists alike -- for yourself!
