Next time you’re bustling through Denver International Airport to catch a flight, make sure you take a moment to soak in your surroundings… you might be surprised by what you find. Denver is home to one of the most extensive airport art programs in the world and includes sculptures, murals, and installations that transform DIA from a drab transportation hub into an unexpectedly interesting and beautiful experience.
When traveling to the airport, you're definitely going to notice the big blue mustang sculpture which has been dubbed "Blucifer" by locals.
But some of the beauty that the airport beholds is going to be a little more difficult to spot. You're definitely going to want to put your phone away and take a closer look. You never know what might be right under your feet (literally).
In 2013, their extensive collection of art even earned DIA the title of, "Best U.S. Airport For Art." This was part of USA Today's "10 Best Reader's Choice" travel contest. Twenty airports throughout the nation were nominated.
Early in the airport design process, artists were working collaboratively with architects, designers, and construction companies to create a seamless integration of art into the airport.
To fund the art purchased, the program utilizes the city and county of Denver's, "Percent For Art" ordinance which was created to enhance public art in the area.
In addition to the permanent collections of artwork on display, the program also curates a variety of art and cultural exhibits that rotate frequently, giving travelers fresh, new displays to admire.

So, if you're bummed about that delayed flight or long layover at DIA, go ahead and take a little stroll around the airport and take in the artistic beauty that surrounds you.
