So stop whatever you’re doing and go chow down on these tasty Mile High treats!
1. Mexican Food of ALL Kinds
Tacos, nachos, and burritos galore! Stop by Pinche (aka Tacos, Tequila, Whiskey) for happy hour and devour the "Victory Club" Nachos with an imported beer and a shot of whiskey.
2. Smothered Burritos
There are many spots around town to get perfectly smothered burritos, but Sam's No.3, an iconic Denver diner established in 1927, specializes in this delectable dish. Pictured is the Colorado Buffalo Burrito featuring ground buffalo, fresh jalapeños, bacon, melted cheese, avocado and salsa. Yum, yum!!!
3. Green Chile
We don't just smother things in green chile here in the Mile High City; we also eat it by the spoonful. Heck, I'd venture to say that some of us may actually drink it. Ahem.
4. Wild Game
It's no secret that we Denverites love all sorts of meats "from the prairie to the forest," as they say at the Fort, which has been serving game and other Old West delicacies since 1963. One of their most popular dishes (seen here) is the Fort Game Plate, featuring a bone-in elk chop, buffalo sirloin medallion, and a grilled teriyaki quail. Oink, oink!
5. Rocky Mountain Oysters
You gotta have 'em. Period. Just think of them as meat chips with yummy dipping sauces. Baller!
6. Beau Jo's Pizza
I love pizza of ANY kind, but these Colorado-style mountain pies are deliciously unique. (And, don't knock the honey till you try it!)
7. Local Craft Beer
When I think of pizza, I think of beer, and we LOVE our local and regional craft breweries here in the Mile High. In fact, there are now over 200 active breweries in the state of Colorado!
8. The Denver Omelet
The origins of this glorious Western breakfast are a bit of a mystery, but its popularity is no secret. You'll find this mixture of ham, eggs, peppers, and cheese on many a menu around town, including Snooze and the Delectable Egg.
9. Smothered Mexican Hamburger
Did I mention our affinity for all things Mexican...and all things smothered?!?!
10. Carne Asada Fries
Yep, you guessed it! More green-chile-smothered, melty-cheese-covered goodness!
