It’s no secret that we here at Only in Colorado love both historic ghost towns and nostalgic train rides… so you can imagine our delight when we discovered a train ride that takes you through one of the state’s most famous abandoned areas. If you are like us and want to experience ghost towns in a whole new way, climb aboard this beautifully haunting train ride:
Chugging along from mid-May through mid-October, the historic Cripple Creek & Victor Narrow Gauge Railroad offers an informative 45-minute train ride through some of the most iconic spots in the area.
Though the town of Cripple Creek itself is not a ghost town per se, the community houses a number of once thriving (and now deserted) locations, which are covered during this educational tour.
During your trip, plan to learn even more about the town of 1,200 (which—during its prime— was home to nearly 50,000)...
...the numerous abandoned mines that once provided prosperity to the Cripple Creek residents...
...and heartbreaking stories of triumphs and failures, highs and lows.
Guests of all ages (and even dogs!) are invited to ride the 15-ton iron horse, which pulls the numerous open-air passenger cars (pictured).
The cost to ride the Cripple Creek & Victor Narrow Gauge Railroad is $15 for adults, $14 for seniors and $10 for children 3-12. For more information on the train and availability, visit their website .
