What is it about trains that is just so darn fun? Is it the history and nostalgia of it? The smell of the billowing smoke? Or maybe it’s the feeling you get while smoothly cascading along the rails? Whatever it is, we here at Only in Colorado cannot get enough, which is why we curated this dreamy train-themed trip through the Centennial State (Link to the interactive map can be found here ):
1. Georgetown Loop Railroad (Georgetown)
What better way to begin your cross-state train trip than by hopping aboard one of Colorado's most beautiful railroads? Located less than an hour from the Mile High City, the Georgetown Loop Railroad is a historic gem that offers a number of special events including Mine Tours, Hike and Rides, and Santa's North Pole Adventure.
2. The Train Cars Coffee and Yogurt Company (Nederland)
Raise your hand if you could use a cup of coffee! (Raises both hands.) For a delicious cup of joe and equally delicious pastries, check out the Train Cars Coffee and Yogurt Company, which serves their fare from aboard historic Pullman, Circus, and Caboose cars.
3. Colorado Railroad Museum (Golden)
Train lovers, rejoice, as the Colorado Railroad Museum is THE place to learn about trains in Colorado! (Not only does the Colorado Railroad Museum allow you to "Ride the Rails" on Saturdays, it gives you access to more than 15 acres of locomotives, models and train memorabilia.)
4. Union Station (Denver)
For a world-class dining and shopping experience (plus an opportunity to people watch), there is no beating the historic and beautifully renovated Denver Union Station.
5. Limon Heritage Museum & Railroad Park (Limon)
One of Colorado's best hidden gems is that of the Eastern Plains, and one of the best hidden gems on the Plains is that of the Limon Heritage Museum, which houses a number of retired train cars to explore, plus a beautifully renovated Rock Island Depot! (The best part? Admission to the museum is always FREE!)

Last but certainly not least along our railroad adventure is a comfortable place to rest via the Steam Train Hotel; "The Hotel with an Inn Touch" that is conveniently located just 3 minutes from the historic Cumbres & Toltec Train Depot.
