The Incredible Natural Phenomenon In Colorado That Happens Just Once A Year

If you are a red-blooded human, there is a good chance that you feel one way or another about spiders and other creepy crawlies that are best outside and as far away from your home as possible. That being said, this weekend, you may want to either avoid this Colorado highway like the plague or race down to see it, as this incredible natural phenomenon happens but once a year:

Slated to take place this week down off Highway 109 near La Junta is the tarantula mating season, which brings thousands of these gigantic spiders to the area in search of a mate.

Since it takes an upwards of 10 years for the male tarantula to become sexually mature, these adult Arachnids only mate once and then die shortly after.

If you are afraid of spiders, we advise against visiting the area for the next few weeks, as one witness reported the migration "was like night of the living dead tarantula edition. You could count hundreds without taking [sic] on step."
