Colorado is chock-full of some of the country’s most scenic and memorable drives. In fact, whether you are cruising the Eastern Plains or climbing the Western Slope, you are guaranteed to find beauty everywhere. However, this one Colorado drive packs a punch not only in terms of views, but uniqueness as well.
Located just outside of Canon City, Skyline Drive is a steep and narrow overlook that offers killer 360 degree views of the surrounding countryside.
Built by inmates in 1908, the road follows Highway 50 through a series of sharp twists, turns, and inclines that have been compared to a roller coaster ride.
In addition to the out-of-this-world views, Skyline Drive is also home to a number of well-preserved dinosaur tracks that were first discovered by a CU Paleontology student in 1999.
The end of the trail also offers a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with replicas of some of the already discovered fossils, allowing visitors a chance to touch and photograph these rare and historic gems.
