Do you long for a time of peace, free love, and grooviness that was mostly found in the 1970s? Unfortunately, these days are long gone, but there are still fun and colorful spots around the Centennial State that will take you back to these good old days, including this hippie Colorado town that everyone should visit:
Located near Denver in Boulder County is that of the quirky and historic Nederland, whose town motto is aptly "Life Is Better Up Here."
Nicknamed "Ned," Nederland was originally established as a trading post between Ute Indians and European settlers during the mid-1800s and experienced its first economic boom a few years later during a nearby gold rush.
Home nearly 1,500 residents, there is no shortage of things to see and do around Ned(erland), including glorious lakes and trees...
...the nearby Peak-to-Peak Scenic Byway...
...and even a few totally out there events and festivals, like the annual Frozen Dead Guy Days (pictured).
(Nowhere else but Nederland can you pay tribute to a man frozen in a shed awaiting the day when science can bring him back to life!)
Now, I know what you're thinking: "All of this is great, but what makes Nederland hippie-esque (aside from the surrounding nature)?" Let's just say that Nederland is also home to such far-out attractions as the pictured Carousel of Happiness, breweries, dispensaries, and other fun surprises!
Ready to visit this colorful small town? Great! Check out the Town of Nederland's website for a list of upcoming events.
