Have you ever been in an airplane, looked out the window while the plane is getting ready to land, and looked around for places you may recognize near the landing strip? Whenever we land at DIA, my husband and I do this and try to identify as many of Colorado’s (ant-sized) locations as we can. Come to find out, astronauts in NASA’s International Space Station do the same and have shared these 9 amazing photos taken of Colorado from space:
1. "Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve, Colorado is featured in this image photographed by an Expedition 16 crew member on the International Space Station."
2. "The images show a plume wafting from the West Fork Complex fire, which was burning explosively in southwestern Colorado near Pagosa Springs. To the northwest, a smaller plume from the Wild Rose fire is also visible (upper image)."
3. "One of the Expedition 34 crew members aboard the Earth-orbiting International Space Station on March 12 , 2013 photographed this image of the Colorado Plateau, which spans northern Arizona, southern Utah, northwestern New Mexico and southwestern Colorado."
4. "This is one of a series of night time images photographed by the Expedition 29 crew from the International Space Station. It features Rocky Mountains, Denver-Colorado Springs (center-right), Santa Fe-Albuquerque (low-center-right), US Great Plains cities: Dallas-Oklahoma City, Kansas City and Chicago."
5. "Breckenridge and Copper Mountain ski slopes, Colorado are featured in this image photographed by an Expedition 18 crew member on the International Space Station."
6. "A section of Dinosaur National Monument along the Yampa River in Colorado, which straddles the Colorado/Utah border, is featured in this image photographed by an Expedition 15 crew member on the International Space Station."
7. "Heavy Snow in Colorado and Nebraska."
8. "Desert and mountain scenery along the Utah/Colorado border are displayed in this scene of the Canyonlands National Park, UT."
9. "Landsat 7 image of Denver, Colorado acquired September 26, 2013."
