When you live in Colorado, you know that there are just some things that one should never think, do, and/or — wait for it — eat. If you are unsure of how to eat like a Coloradan, take our advice and avoid these 8 food faux-pas that a true Colorado native would never commit:
1. Voluntarily skip brunch...
Look, we get it if you had a long week and sleep in a bit... but if you are wide awake at 6 a.m. and STILL decide to forgo brunch? That's just not right.
2. ...or worse -- voluntarily opt for a fast food breakfast.
Please excuse me while I go throw up...
3. Thinking that Rocky Mountain Oysters are actual seafood.
Let me put it this way: they don't come from the dark depths of the sea, but instead the dark depths of another mysterious world.
4. Eating your produce from a can.
With incredible local options like Palisade peaches, Olathe sweet corn, Pueblo chiles, and Rocky Ford melons, why would you EVER get your produce from a can and/or freezer?
5. Thinking that Casa Bonita is ever a good idea.
In your defense, I will say that Casa Bonita is one of those awful rite-of-passages that every Coloradan must experience once (and only once)... but going back for seconds? No.
6. Ordering a domestic beer with dinner.
If you are visiting from out-of-state, we can let this one slide (since you obviously don't know any better)... but if you come from Colorado, shame. on. YOU.
7. Finally -- and most importantly -- NOT smothering your burrito in green chile...
It isn't just burritos, but also burgers, eggs, blueberry pie, etc.
8. ...or dipping your pizza in honey.
New York and Chicago have nothing on the thick and pillowy goodness known as a Mountain-style pie.
