8 Picture Perfect Fall Day Trips To Take In Colorado

Have you never visited the southern Colorado town of Trinidad? If not, then you are not only missing out on the town's beautiful fall colors and history, but also one of the greatest foodie destinations in the state!

Hiding out amidst the unbelievable Sangre De Cristos is that of Westcliffe, which boasts many special events and festivals, easy access to some of the best outdoor recreation in the state, and an impressive collection of locally owned shops, boutiques, and restaurants. (While the town itself is amazing, the pièce de résistance is the colorful Sangre de Cristo Range and other scenery surrounding this small mountain town.)

While there is PLENTY to love about Durango (Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, anyone?), our favorite part of all may just be the incredible San Juan Scenic Byway; a 233-mile-loop that is by far the most colorful drive in all of the Colorado.

With easy access via I-70 (just 45 miles west of Denver), the historic "Silver Queen of the Rockies" is truly the ultimate Colorado fall destination with its ample shopping and dining opportunities, rides aboard the Georgetown Loop Railroad (pictured), and multiple museums.

If you thought Steamboat Springs was amazing in the winter (see: epic skiing and snowboarding), wait until you experience it during the fall with its many colorful trees and surrounding mountains!

Located amidst the enchanting San Juan Mountains, Silverton is a tiny town of nearly 650 of the luckiest people in Colorado. Established as a mining town in 1874, Silverton is known as much for its charming downtown area as it is for historic attractions like the unforgettable Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, a number of epic outdoor recreational opportunities, and -- of course -- the glorious San Juan Mountains.
