When it comes to unforgettable attractions, colorful scenery, and delicious food, there is truly no shortage of places to visit around beautiful Colorado. Do you know what else Colorado is chock-full of? Mysterious caves! If exploring a dark and damp underground chamber gives you a thrill, you will want to hop in the car and visit Colorado’s 5 most famous caves!
1. Cave of the Winds (Manitou Springs)
Quite possibly one of the most iconic of Colorado caves is that of Mantiou's Cave of the Winds; a large and stunning cave that has been open for public exploration since 1881 and features such exciting tours as their family-friendly Discovery Tour and adventurous Lantern Tour.
2. Hobo Cave (Boulder)
While Hobo Cave is considered to be more a "set of bouldering problems" than it is your standard deep cave, this Flagstaff Mountain hidden gem is still one you will want to visit along your spelunking adventure (ESPECIALLY if you enjoy rock climbing)!
3. Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park (Glenwood Springs)
Stunning, right? If you think the photos of Glenwood Caverns -- which is not only the largest open-to-the-public cave in Colorado, but also one of USA Today's "Top 10 Places to Go Underground" -- look amazing, wait until you experience it for yourself! (Psst... like the Cave of the Winds, Glenwood Caverns also offers a number of different tours, from their short-and-sweet Historic Fairy Cave tour all the way up to their extreme Wild Cave Tour.)
4. Spring Cave (Meeker)
Located just down the road from the majestic Glenwood Caverns lies the little-known Spring Cave; a fun and unique cave with two entrances and numerous rooms to explore. Please Note: Due to bats once contaminated with white nose syndrome, visitors must register and observe decontamination procedures before visiting Spring Cave.
5. Mantle's Cave (Dinosaur National Monument)
If you are like myself and are completely petrified of closed and confined spaces, Mantle's Cave is for you! Located in the Castle Park region of Dinosaur National Monument, Mantle's Cave is a large and open cave that is thought to have once been a significant resource for the Fremont culture.
