If you are like me, you know that you are royalty at heart. You have the tiara (or crown, if you’re a gent), dainty wave, and expensive taste down pat, yet something is missing… Oh, I know; the castle! Fortunately for us, there is no need to move to Europe or Disney World to find that perfect palace, as Colorado is home to this hidden castle that will make you feel like you’re in a fairy tale:
Located in Sedalia, the jaw-dropping Cherokee Castle is housed on a stunning 3,400 acres that serve as a sanctuary for both wildlife and native ecosystems.
Built in the 1920s, Cherokee Castle is a 1450’s Scottish-style castle that features exquisite details, historic furnishings and art work, and views that you have to see to believe.
Not only is the castle itself worthwhile, so is its surrounding land! The Cherokee Ranch offers educational opportunities for all ages in the areas of wildlife, Western heritage, cattle ranching, and more.
How did the castle (and all of the surrounding acquired land) come to be? The 3,400 acres used to belong to two different homesteads, owned by the Flower and Blunt families. In 1924, the Flower homestead was sold to the Johnson family, who would go on to build the marvelous structure.
Both the Johnsons and Blunts sold their land (and castle) to Tweet Kimball in 1954, who -- some 40 years later -- worked with Douglas County to protect the land, and in turn founded the Cherokee Ranch & Castle Foundation.
In addition to renting out and holding events on the Ranch, Cherokee Castle is also open to the public and holds a number events like story time, a popular Performing Arts Series, tours, and more.
Did we mention that you can also rent the castle for weddings...
...and other fabulous events?
Princess Annie will eat/drink to that!
