This mid-sized town of around 20,000 year-round residents is also home to a few thousand Fort Lewis College students at any given time. The combination of this town’s interesting Old West history with the vibrant contributions of enthusiastic college students makes Durango – in our opinion, at least – a very special place indeed.
Durango is a great little city in the southwestern part of Colorado.
This college began as a military fort and later became an Indian boarding school before becoming a public college.

This college is unique in that nearly half of its students are Native Americans, and they represent nearly 185 American Indian Tribes. Qualified Native Americans get a tuition-free education at this college due to its history, and 16% of the baccalaureate degrees awarded to Native American students are awarded to graduates of Fort Lewis College.
It's a fairly small school with an enrollment of under 4,000 students, but the school offers many popular majors including business, management, marketing, social sciences, recreation, biomedical sciences, and education, to name a few.
