Does anyone else feel like this has been the longest winter ever? While Colorado winters are typically comprised of a few snowy days here and there, we have been getting dumped on, which is not only affecting the landscape, but our moods as well. Luckily, we have found a warm, tropical, and colorful place to chase away those winter blues, which can be found at this beautiful butterfly forest:
Welcome to the Butterfly Pavilion; an urban oasis that will make you think you left cold Colorado for a tropical paradise!
The Butterfly Pavilion is dedicated to inspiring appreciation for these delicate creatures and educating the public about the importance of global conservation efforts to protect their threatened habitats.
It is the world's first stand-alone invertebrate zoo, which makes for a true one-of-a-kind experience.
Housing a whopping 1,600 butterflies, the 7,200-square-foot Wings of the Tropics room is the true heart of the pavilion.
It might just trick you into thinking you are exploring the rainforests of South America!
Are we REALLY in Colorado and not the Lacandon Jungle?!
In addition to the butterflies, the Butterfly Pavilion offers several hands-on opportunities, including seeing (and even touching) some of the underwater invertebrates at the Water's Edge...
...holding Rosie and some of her creepy-crawly friends...
(Don't worry - she's gentle!)
...and a number of informative lectures, classes, and other special events.
General admission to the Butterfly Pavilion is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, and $8 for children ages 2 to 12.
The Butterfly Pavilion is located at 6252 W. 104th Ave. in Westminster and is open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
