If you have ever cruised just west of Denver, you may have noticed a majestic stone palace in the distance and wondered if you might have left the Centennial State for a page in a J.K. Rowling book. What is this magical place? Is it, in fact, Hogwarts? While it may appear that way, it is that of the stunning Dunafon Castle:
Located in Idledale, Dunafon Castle is arguably one of the most beautiful event venues in the state, and for a great reason.
Built and designed by water engineer Marcus Wright, Dunafon Castle was developed in 1929 and completed in 1941, with most materials moved up Bear Creek Canyon via a narrow gauge railroad that Wright installed himself.
Modeled after 13th Century Celtic castles, Dunafon was built to resemble these ancient castles with features like turrets, tunnels, rock walls, and handmade light fixtures.
After Wright's death in the late 1960s, ownership of Dunafon changed hands several times before being converted into the timeless event venue it is today!
While you may not see wizards in training, floating candles, and/or talking pictures inside of the Dunafon Castle, you will find grand rooms, dramatic arches throughout the interior, and other ornate (and, dare we say, magical) touches.
