Ready or not, snow is in the forecast for Colorado early next week (like, across the state… not just in the mountains)! Are you angry about this winter outlook and are wondering who to blame? Or maybe you’re super stoked and are wondering who to credit? Either way, you may want to direct your attention to this popular mountain town and its crazy annual festival:
Taking place January 10th - 13th, 2018 is the 55th annual Breckenridge Ullr Fest, which blends horned vikings with a community bon fire and unforgettable parade.
As per Norse mythology, Ullr was the god of winter who "loved the cold, and delighted in traveling over the country on his skis or skates," making him the perfect figure to both honor and showcase in anticipation of a white winter.
Just how does one pay homage to the great Ullr? You start by participating in the Ullr Ice Plunge...
"Plunge into the frozen depths of the Maggie Pond and fully immerse yourself in winter’s chill" and dress up for the hilarious Best Plunge Costume!
...take a shot from the World's Longest Shot Ski...
...enjoy some time with the kids at the Family Snow Day...
...and cap it off with an epic bonfire, of course!
